Creating enduring projects that give back to each community
Our landscape architecture firm—located in Boulder, Colorado—provides site planning and design services to public and private clients throughout the U.S. In our work, we research and study the unique character of each setting and find ways to provide meaningful experiences for people to enjoy. Many of our projects involve private foundations, municipalities, and departments of transportation. The firm has an effective project management approach for leading multiple stakeholders and diverse project teams from master planning through design and construction. Our project design teams often include artists, lighting designers, and engineers. Chroma’s approach to each project is personalized, collaborative, and results focused. Because ninety percent of the firm’s designs are constructed, we remain driven to explore novel ways to design and build for the future.
You can count on us to:
▸ Honor your unique community
▸ Provide creative design and expert project management with an emphasis on collaboration
▸ Employ an art-centric design approach that will pleasantly surprise
▸ Deliver inspiring places that make a real difference to the community
Doug enjoys creating iconic community expressions in that special place where bridges, roadways, parks, and downtowns overlap. His professional passion is to design projects that enrich communities and are inspired by the cultural and natural history of each place. The resulting designs include iconic features and supporting landscapes that give form to the design inspiration. Doug pursues the right fit for each situation, he is respectful of client’s needs and financial constraints yet optimistic in outlook. Doug founded Chroma Design in Boulder, Colorado in 2006 after practicing eleven years at Carol R. Johnson Associates in Boston and nine years at EDAW in Denver. There he established his reputation for directing large multi-disciplinary transportation corridor and park planning and design projects. He is a licensed landscape architect in seven states and is nationally certified by CLARB. Doug holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Design from the University of Massachusetts and a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture from the University of Idaho. Elena is a landscape designer at Chroma Design. Having recently joined the firm, she was immediately immersed in the on-going work. Elena came to the office with a background in landscape design, community and regional land planning, horticulture, and business. As a pivotal team member, she is already broadening her skills with community gateway and streetscape design experience, and provides significant contributions to the design of each project while being in charge of producing the deliverables and coordinating submittals with the design team. Elena bridges the gap between conceptual design and construction documents, preparing 3D graphics, inspirational images, and drawings that visually tell the design story. She received a Bachelors in Landscape Architecture and a Minor in Horticulture from Cornell University.
