Gene Leahy Mall Playground

Omaha, Nebraska

The Gene Leahy Mall is downtown Omaha’s central park. It is a recessed, water-oriented destination built in the 1970’s that is slated for major renovations. Chroma Design prepared the design for a new adventure and sensory playground and a signature pedestrian bridge. The recreation improvements are designed for all ages and are built into the existing hillside above the park’s lagoon. The playground features: existing slides; a sensory garden; a monumental climbing boulder; a tree house with climbing nets; a ranger station; a hillside water feature with a play basin, runnel, and pop jets; swings; toddler climbing ‘serpent’; spinners; tension shade structures; and a ranger station/cafe.
