Artist Bill King’s ‘Sunrise’ sculpture is set to greet people as they arrive at the Mid-America Center (MAC). The vision for the sculpture was a sod-busting pioneer couple stepping out into their heartland farm fields in the morning sunshine. After the sculpture was installed, the Chroma Design team produced a complementary surrounding landscape and lighting design for the sculpture and MAC arrival court. Color pavement bands and linear masses of fountain grass symbolize crop rows and link the sculpture to the entrance. The court’s center island features a set of stone ‘runnels’ reminiscent of the fan-shaped drainage patterns on the nearby bluffs.
